Introducing Autism + Us:
A Foundation for Inclusion and Understanding
This year, in celebration of my daughter Ava’s 5th birthday, I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Autism + Us, a foundation dedicated to building inclusive, nurturing spaces for children on the autism spectrum. Autism + Us is my gift to her and to the countless children and families who deserve supportive communities and empowering environments. Starting this foundation has been a dream I’ve held close for a long time. I’ve let fear stand in the way, but after Ava’s recent hospital stay and a lot of prayer and reflection, I’m finally ready to take this leap of faith. With God’s guidance and a renewed sense of purpose, I am committed to making a meaningful difference.
Our Mission and Vision

Autism + Us was created to spread awareness and foster genuine inclusion for children with autism. We envision a world where neurodivergent and neurotypical children learn and grow together, in schools and community centers where they are encouraged to understand, embrace, and celebrate each other’s differences.
Our goals include:

• Therapy Centers: Modern therapy centers designed for children on the spectrum, offering comprehensive support for families and caregivers.
• Inclusive Schools: Schools where all children, neurodivergent and neurotypical are taught not only academic skills but also empathy, cooperation, and understanding.
• Community Centers: Spaces featuring indoor and outdoor playgrounds specially designed for children with autism, as well as programs that welcome and educate the entire community on autism and other special needs. These centers will employ parents of children with autism, fostering a community of support and shared experiences.
Supporting Parents and Caregivers

At Autism + Us, we understand that raising a child with autism comes with unique challenges, especially when it comes to feeling supported and understood. Our foundation is committed to offering meaningful support to parents and caregivers through employment, transparency, and community engagement:

• Employment Opportunities: We want parents to feel appreciated and supported by providing jobs that are designed with their needs and experiences in mind. Our facilities will be staffed by parents and caregivers who understand the nuances of autism and can connect with the community on a personal level.

• Transparent Spaces: All of our centers will feature cameras and glass-mirrored rooms for therapy sessions, allowing parents to observe and learn. This helps bridge the gap for parents of children who may not be able to verbally communicate everything they’ve learned.

• Safety and Skills: To address the rise in elopement and the associated risk of drowning, we’ll offer swimming programs that teach children critical water safety skills in a fun, supportive environment.
• Behavioral Support and Alternatives: Instead of schools that suspend or expel children due to behavioral challenges, we offer in-house options for additional support. Our centers aim to provide specialized programs that meet each child where they are, creating space for growth rather than punishment.
• Events and Sports: Our foundation will host events, offer sports teams, and provide structured activities tailored to children with autism, allowing them to thrive and enjoy the same recreational opportunities as their peers.
Long-Term Vision: Housing and Overnight Facilities

Our ultimate vision includes the creation of overnight facilities and long-term living accommodations for autism families and autistic adults. These spaces will be tailored specifically for their needs, offering supportive, safe, and nurturing environments that foster independence and a true sense of home.
How You Can Help

To bring Autism + Us to life, we’re launching a series of fundraising efforts that include donations, sales of unique items, and community events. Every dollar raised will help us take this vision forward, creating spaces where children with autism are celebrated and supported, and where families find genuine understanding and connection.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. With your support, we can create a world where children like Ava and so many others have a place that truly feels like home.
